Medication Disposal: It is extremely important to properly dispose unused or expired medications. Most medications can be thrown in the household trash; however several precautions should be taken before doing so. Take the medications (tablets or capsules) out of their original container, place them in a sealable bag, mix them with an undesirable substance (such as coffee grounds or kitty litter) and place this into the trash. Make sure to conceal or remove all personal information from the prescription label before throwing this into the trash. There are certain medications that may be especially harmful, even if just one dose is taken by someone other than the person for whom the medicine was prescribe, and are recommended to be flushed down the toilet.
