Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Pam Warren, a high school science teacher from Petersburg, Illinois
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, January 9, 2024 (1)
April Marquet, a digital production artist from Oakland, California
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, January 9, 2024 (2)
Rotimi Kukoyi, a health policy & management student at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill from Hoover, Alabama
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, January 9, 2024 (3)

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

We are three weeks done the Winter 2024 Second Chance competition; Week 4 opens with Rotimi Kukoyi, April Marquet, and Pam Warren. Rotimi was one of three players unable to take part in last season’s High School Reunion Tournament, while April and Pam both came incredibly close to winning in their own right back in September 2022. This should be an interesting matchup; after how well Sophia Weng played last week, it would be a mistake to discount Rotimi’s chances whatsoever.

In case you’ve forgotten, tonight is also the night of the second semifinal of this year’s Celebrity Jeopardy event; tonight’s game is between Steven Weber (Wings), sports commentator Katie Nolan, and Dulé Hill (ABC’s The Wonder Years.) That airs at 8:00 (7:00 Central) on ABC in the United States and CTV in Canada!

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The Book of the Dead is a famous Egyptian religious text; it was generally used to assist the deceased’s journey into the Egyptian afterlife. In use for about 1,500 years, it was compiled over the course of a millennium by numerous priests.

I just want to mention that a Final Jeopardy clue like this is very often overlooked by those who want to criticize the show for asking about the Bible at the expense of other religions and mythologies. This is definitely a non-Judeo-Christian world religion/mythology clue that is often completely forgotten by those who just want to post trolling online threads criticizing the show’s writing.

Rotimi knew what he was doing—he found the first Daily Double and doubled up through it! Pam got to the last one relatively late in the round, and an incorrect response put her into third place going into Final. Andy’s Thoughts:

  • One person online recently called a sort of middle “too big for the small range, too small for the big range” Daily Double bet “neither fish nor fowl”, and I think that’s apt. I also thought Pam’s Daily Double bet fit that. If she was going to go big, it needed to be bigger, to give her the best chance at a runaway, and if she was going to go small, it needed be smaller, to have a better chance of still leading going into Final.
  • Today’s box score: January 9, 2024 Box Score.
