The Warriors series is good for early teenagers, especially cat fanatics. It has fantasy elements, and something interesting happens each arc. HOWEVER, it's not good for little kids and those who are sensitive to blood, animal death, and violence. The Warriors series contains battle scenes and bloodshed, sometimes detailed deaths even.

I think these books were an excellent addition for my 8 year old daughter. We were reading these longer chapter books together and then suddenly she just took off and wanted to read them on her own. She finishes about one a week and kept going until she has hit the third series now.

I think it’s great book! It can get very dark at times though. Maybe a mature tween could read it?I do think I shouldn’t have read this when I was 8 tho…

My daughter has autism, and she struggles with words and reading comprehension and was not very interested in long form stories. She also did not easily empathize with human characters. The Warriors books have opened up longer stories for her, raised her vocabulary, and illustrated complex social interactions. I read them to her (she still can't handle large chunks of text) and I define the larger words as we go. I have to go slowly and sometimes check that she's followed some of the implied social interactions. But she is still very very into the story, and it challenges her abilities in a great way. Also it's fun! I'm as into the story as she is, so it's great that we can share that. The violence is definitely there. The cats are in the wild, and they live harsh lives. There are very evil deeds done by the bad cats, and terrible tragedies. One series we had to stop because she was triggered by the death of a pregnant cat. That one wasn't explicitly described, as she was carried off by an eagle. But others have been somewhat. When one of the bad guys was killed, the injury and the (long) process of his death was described, though an intense visual description was not given. But it was bad enough that I had to skip over it. I do like that the violence has emotional impact. While it is more intense than some of the simplistic media she watches, it also shows the consequences of violence for the people that care. I'd much rather have that kind of input in her life. It really helps.The story is intensely dramatic, so for kids that have trouble paying attention there is always something to keep them stimulated. And the visual descriptions and creative use of language is great! Also there is a continued reinforcement of a code of honor, though I think loyalty as a virtue is too much emphasized. But even then characters are shown having to struggle between blind loyalty and their own conscience. I would say these books are intensely moral without being preachy.

I think they should try it

I would definitely say a 5+ on these series. The only reason I didn't put it up there is because parts will be boring for them. So, i suggest +8 if you really want ur child to get into it. There is DEATH, and sometimes it is really SAD. Scenes with dog-clawed cats and evil badgers. But this is a great series. I SAY THE SAME for the new prophecy, omen of the stars, power of three, and the other ones. It is just AMAZING AND NOTHING ELSE. The reason i say it may bore some is during some GREAT role model scenes that are actually kind of my FAVORITE. They are when the warriors are calm at camp, with scenes like Fireheart (now Firestar) when he is a deputy, going through clan life; checking on newborn kits, announcing new warriors, assigning patrols. There are also exciting battles and sad deaths, but its not bad. I found that my child loves this book, he reads every single book, warriors is about cats that survive in the wild and have conflicts against bad cats and fight each other, this series is fun and awsome

This is an amazing series and I highly recommend it whether you are a cat lover or not, but there is a lot of deaths, killing, and they do describe how bloody some battles are. But it is pure amazing!

These books were banned from our local schools up until eighth graders and up for violence and such. It’s good for mature kids but it needs explaining if bad behaviors show up that the books are fictional and so on. It has good storylines and positive things. But it was banned in my nearby schools for elementary kids pretending to be cats and hurting each other which is why explaining to your kids that they shouldn’t replicate anything they read is important. Otherwise they are a good way to keep your kids reading and interested in books.
